This collection of materials will help you set up the stage from planting to harvesting of the microgreen. It includes the base trays and microgreen planters used in the NatureTot System, as well as the small salad spinner. At checkout you will have the option to add a small watering can.
Compatible with the NatureTot cabinets and exercises.
6 large rust-free trays made of food-grade aluminum provide a base for planting trays.
Extra microgreen trays allow you to wash some, while others are in use.
Self-draining and durable, the microgreen trays are practical and long lasting.
All of the trays will fit in our Harvest Cabinet, if you decide to later upgrade and purchase in stages. Just keep your receipt and present this to us when you purchase the Harvest Cabinet.
Each Microgreen Planter measures 5″ x 5″. Six Microgreen Planters can fit in one Harvesting Tray, which measures 11″ x 15.5″.
Our Harvesting Cabinet can hold six of the Harvest Trays, so there are several opportunities for repetition and continuous activity is possible.
Brush
The brush fits conveniently in the child's hands and simplifies clean up.
Worm Composter
The worm composter is small enough that the child can access it independently.
Harvest Tray
The Harvest Tray, made of food-grade aluminum, is rust free while being lightweight and rigid for maneuvering.
Ceramic Weights
These weights fit perfectly inside our Microgreen Planters.
Tongs
Some of my favourite tongs, these ones have a spring opening and silicone tips.
Small Watering Can
This little stainless steel watering can prevents over watering and spilling from the top with the covered edge.
How long does a growing cycle take?
A growing cycle of the microgreens from planting to harvesting is complete within about 14 days.
Please note that the cycles overlap each other as the plants progress in stages on the harvesting cabinet, and you can expect the children to work at the system throughout the week, planting, watering, harvesting daily.
A completed cycle of the microgreen waste in the composting cabinet can take a couple of months once the worms are well established, but of course, the harvesting cabinet offers daily exercises as well.
I already have planting exercises in my classroom. Why should I purchase this?
The unique value of the NatureTot system is that it provides the children with the ability to independently engage and maintain a complete growing cycle, from soil, planting, growing, harvesting, composting to soil once again. It is this isolated focus on a nutrient cycle that allows the child a concrete, experiential understanding of the interdependencies in nature. Additionally, this nutrient cycle adds purpose and value to every exercise in the system because it becomes clear to the child that they are needed in the next stage.
While it is quite possible for you to set up in your classroom yourself, the NatureTot System is simply meant to make this a real possibility for our Montessori community. It adds elegance, beauty and functionality to your prepared environment that takes significant work to set up.
It must be added that there are many exercises that extend the value of any practical life, grace and courtesy, science, cultural and sensorial activity. You can expect this system to add incredible value to your prepared environment, beyond just caring for plants.
I do not know much about plants or nature. Can I use this system?
Absolutely! We will provide you with the tools and the knowledge needed to implement the system. Your children will be learning incredible insights on nature, even if your nature knowledge is limited. One of our goals is for this to help any educator bring nature into their classroom today! Nature, always, is the teacher. Sometimes it is best if we let nature teach and guide the child, stepping back to allow this to happen.

The first step in setting up a NatureTot System is to decide between two products:
- Purchase one of two products:
· The Full NatureTot System: where everything is provided for you, including cabinets, curated materials and the online Masterclass
OR
· NatureTot System Masterclass: an online training course providing guidance on what materials and exercises are needed to integrate a simple cycle of life in your class.
- Once you have made either purchase, you are given access to any of our other products. You are also enrolled as a member of the NatureTot Community. This allows you to purchase any of our products at anytime.
- After your free community membership expires (3 or 6 months, depending on your purchase) you continue to get access to the course, community and products by maintaining your membership in the NatureTot Community for $9US/month.
The products are compatible with each other and will work on the Full NatureTot System, so you could build your system up over years. Happy building!

A prepared Environment for child and plant
Part of creating a system that is repeatable and spontaneous is to develop a system that works for your plants and the children. The tools in this package will help you achieve this. The Microgreen Planters nestle within the larger tray perfectly. They are rigid so that they provide a predictable platform for the child to maneuver around the classroom as needed. They also are perfectly sized so there is correlation with the metal insets, and if you purchased our Planting Package, the tiles fit within the planters similarly to the metal insets. A little bonus for the child is the precious salad spinner and the tongs that work with efficiency for the child.
